Expert Criminal Defense Strategies

Nassau County Is Different

Nassau County borders the city, and the DA’s office treats it like a fortress. They want to send a message: crime that starts in NYC doesn’t end here. If you’re facing serious felony charges, understand this. They’ll prosecute you harder than almost anywhere in the country.

You need someone who knows the system. I can look at a case for ten minutes and tell you exactly what we’re dealing with. Negotiation or trial? Motion practice or sit tight? After 31 years, I don’t guess. I know.

The first few weeks after arrest? Critical. Decisions made then determine everything that follows. Call me immediately. (516) 280-2160.

31 Years in Nassau Courts

My first trial in Nassau was 1995. I’ve been walking these hallways ever since. I know which judges give you a fair shake. I know which prosecutors are bluffing. I know the court officers by name.

This isn’t book knowledge. It’s three decades of actual cases, actual wins, actual relationships. When your freedom’s on the line, that matters.

Where I Practice

Mineola (County Court)

Serious felonies. Violent crimes. Major drug cases. The stakes don’t get higher. The DA assigns their best prosecutors here, and they don’t mess around.

You need someone who knows the courthouse inside out. I know the line assistants, the supervising ADAs, and what approach works with each judge. That knowledge comes from 31 years of showing up.

Hempstead (District Court)

150 cases on the arraignment calendar. 30 to 100 cases per part. Three floors of courtrooms. It’s chaos if you don’t know your way around.

I do. I’ve been here since 1994. I know which judges handle what. I know the prosecutors. I know how to position a case for the best possible outcome.

Long Beach City Court

City court, but same tough Nassau County DA. I know the judge here well, we graduated Hofstra Law together. That familiarity matters.

What I Handle

Everything from misdemeanors to A-felonies:

Violent crimes: Assault, robbery, burglary, domestic violence, menacing.

Drug offenses: Possession, sale, marijuana, prescription fraud.

Theft: Grand larceny, petit larceny, embezzlement, shoplifting.

Sex crimes: Assault, criminal sexual act, possession, registration issues.

Weapons: Criminal possession, firearms, illegal guns.

White collar: Fraud, forgery, identity theft, credit card fraud.

Misdemeanor or felony, I handle it.

Trial Record

First trial: 1995. Since then? I’ve built an excellent track record both negotiating and trying criminal cases in Nassau County. It’s not luck. It’s preparation, knowing the law, and understanding the players.

Many lawyers won’t go to trial. I will. When prosecutors know you’re ready, the whole dynamic changes.

Why the First Few Weeks Matter

Case assessment: Ten minutes with me and you’ll know exactly where you stand.

Evidence: Witnesses forget. Footage gets deleted. Act fast or lose it forever.

Negotiation: Sometimes the best deal happens early, before the DA’s fully invested.

Bail: Arraignment happens fast. Have an attorney there or risk sitting in jail.

Arrested in Nassau County? Do This

1. Stay silent. Don’t talk to police without a lawyer. Period. Say: “I’m invoking my right to remain silent. I want my lawyer.” Then stop talking.

2. You’ll go to Hempstead. Arraignment within 24 hours. That’s your first court appearance.

3. Call me. (516) 280-2160. Day or night. Especially for felonies where bail gets decided.

4. Stay off the phone. Don’t discuss your case with anyone except me. Jail calls are recorded.

5. Follow court orders. Violate bail conditions and you’re back in custody.

Why Hire Me

31 years in Nassau. Mineola, Hempstead, Long Beach. I know these courts cold.

Proven track record. Excellent results both negotiating and trying cases.

Relationships. I know the prosecutors. I know what makes them tick.

24/7 access. You get my cell, not a secretary.

Local offices. I’m here, not commuting from the city.

Personal attention. Me, not a junior associate. From start to finish.

The Reality of Nassau County

Nassau borders NYC. The DA’s office treats it like a wall. Violent crimes, guns, drugs, major theft, they throw the book at you. They have the resources and the political backing to pursue maximum penalties.

That’s why local experience matters. You need someone who gets the mindset, knows how to navigate it, and has the credibility to negotiate even in this environment.

After 31 years, I know what works here.

Penalties

Violation: 15 days, $250. Disorderly conduct, harassment.

Class B Misdemeanor: 3 months, $500. Simple assault, prostitution.

Class A Misdemeanor: 1 year, $1,000. Petit larceny, DWI first offense.

Class E Felony: 4 years, $5,000. Grand larceny 4th, assault 3rd.

Class D Felony: 7 years, $5,000. Burglary 3rd, robbery 3rd.

Class C Felony: 15 years, $15,000. Robbery 2nd.

Class B Felony: 25 years, $30,000. Robbery 1st, burglary 2nd.

Class A Felony: Life. Murder, major drug sale.

Felonies also mean fines, probation, restitution, and a permanent record that affects jobs, housing, licenses, and immigration.

Common Questions

Should I talk to police? No. Invoke your right to silence. Wait for your attorney.

What happens at arraignment? You’re charged, enter a plea, and bail gets decided. Have a lawyer there.

Can my case get dismissed? Yes. Insufficient evidence, illegal search, misconduct, successful motions. But Nassau is tough. You need experienced local counsel.

County vs District Court? County Court (Mineola): felonies, prison time. District Court (Hempstead): misdemeanors.

How long do cases take? Misdemeanors: months. Felonies: 6 months to over a year if trial.

Plea or trial? Depends on your case, evidence, history, and goals. I’ll analyze everything and give you my honest recommendation. Your call.

What if I’m innocent? You need aggressive representation even more. I’ll investigate, challenge evidence, interview witnesses, and fight to clear your name.

What does it cost? Misdemeanors: $2,500-$5,000. Serious felonies: $7,500-$25,000+. Free consultation.

Can I seal my record? Some convictions can be sealed after waiting periods. Some automatic. Serious felonies usually can’t. I’ll advise you.

Felony penalties? See the list above. They don’t mess around in Nassau County.
