Sag Harbor Criminal Defense Lawyer
If you are facing criminal charges in Sag Harbor, you need a defense attorney who understands this unique village and its justice court. I am Ed Palermo, and I have spent over 30 years defending clients in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court.
Sag Harbor is a historic whaling village with a year-round community and a vibrant summer season. The village has its own police department and justice court, located on Main Street in the heart of the village. Cases range from minor violations and traffic tickets to serious misdemeanors and felony preliminary hearings.
Summer months see increased enforcement as visitors flock to the village’s restaurants, shops, and waterfront. The compact nature of the village means that interactions with police can happen quickly, and what starts as a minor incident can escalate into criminal charges.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What criminal charges do you defend in Sag Harbor?
I defend every type of criminal charge including DWI, drug offenses, assault, domestic violence, theft and grand larceny, burglary, weapons charges, sex offenses, harassment, disorderly conduct, criminal contempt, and probation violations. I also handle the unique charges that arise in Sag Harbor's summer season — public intoxication, trespassing disputes near the waterfront, and incidents stemming from the village's active nightlife.
Can I get a criminal charge in Sag Harbor reduced or dismissed?
Yes. Depending on the facts, evidence, and your prior record, charges can often be reduced or dismissed entirely. I have successfully negotiated hundreds of reductions by challenging evidence, identifying procedural errors, and leveraging my relationships with local prosecutors. Early intervention gives you the most options.
Will a Sag Harbor arrest appear on my record?
An arrest creates a record, but the disposition matters most. A dismissal or acquittal is far better than a conviction. I work to protect your record through dismissal, reduction to violations, or other favorable resolutions. Dismissed cases may be eligible for sealing under CPL §160.50.
I was arrested in Sag Harbor but live out of state. What do I do?
This is common, especially during summer. I can handle most court appearances on your behalf without you needing to travel back to New York repeatedly. My East Hampton office at 9 Willow Lane is minutes from Sag Harbor Village Court. Contact me immediately so we can begin your defense.
Do I need a lawyer for a first offense or minor charge in Sag Harbor?
Yes. Even minor charges can have lasting consequences on your record, employment, and future. First-time offenders may qualify for ACDs and other favorable dispositions, but only with proper legal representation. Do not assume a clean record will protect you without an attorney.
