Edward Palermo represented a young man charged with first degree assault and a number of assorted felonies and misdemeanors.

The charges carried a maximum sentence of 25 years and a minimum sentence of 5 years upon conviction. The assigned Suffolk County District Attorney offered a sentence of 15 years. Edward rejected the offer and scheduled the matter for trial in the New York State Supreme Court. The trial lasted for four weeks and approximately 15 witnesses, including 3 experts, testified. The jury needed only four hours to acquit Edward’s client of the assault first degree and all other charges. The case was reported in Newsday.

Edward Palermo represented an infamous reputed leader of a Haitian paramilitary group in a mortgage fraud case in New York State Supreme Court in Suffolk County.

The client faced a sentence of up to 25 years in state’s prison. The case received television and press coverage including a three-page article in the New York Times, where Edward was quoted, and in national wire reports. Edward successfully opposed a one million dollar bail application by the prosecuting attorney and after months of litigation, negotiated a very favorable disposition for the client to the least state sentence under law.

Edward Palermo represented the president of an international shipping company who faced the prospect of federal fraud and bribery charges in the United States District Court in Jacksonville Florida.

20 years in federal prison was the potential exposure for the client if convicted. Edward negotiated a result wherein the client would serve 6 months in a federal halfway house. The client was only incarcerated at night. He was able to continue to work at his company.

Edward Palermo represented a man charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree in the Suffolk County Supreme Court.

Edward was hired after bail was set at a million dollars with the man’s prior counsel. The client faced upwards of a decade in State prison if convicted of the charges. Edward, first, re-argued bail and successfully lowered the amount to $400,000, which the client posted. He then successfully motioned the Court to dismiss the marijuana charge. Finally, he negotiated a very favorable disposition to a misdemeanor where the client received no jail and no probation. The District Attorney’s Office also agreed to return a large sum of cash that was seized from the client at the time of his arrest. The client then advised Edward that he was “his attorney for life”.

Edward Palermo represented a college student from New York City in a tragic vehicular death case in Manhattan wherein a young Scottish woman died.

A conviction on the charges carried a sentence of up to eleven years in State’s prison. The case was covered in the cities major newspapers including the Times, the Post and the Daily News. Edward negotiated a very favorable disposition for his client and avoided any state imprisonment.

Edward Palermo represented two people charged with First Degree Rape. Each faced up to 25 years in state prison.

The matter went to trial in the New York State Supreme Court in Suffolk County. Both clients were acquitted of all charges.

Edward Palermo represented a client charged with violent Second Degree Burglary allegation.

The client faced the three strikes rule and life imprisonment. Edward tried the case and convinced a fair-minded Suffolk County Jury that his client was not guilty of the charge. The client was then immediately released after having been detained in jail for more than 8 months while awaiting trial.

Edward Palermo represented a businessman accused of Second Degree Sodomy.

The client faced up to 7 years in State prison and deportation. Edward persuaded a Jury in Nassau County to acquit his client of the sodomy charge.

Edward Palermo represented a medical doctor charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality.

The doctor, who had no prior criminal history, now faced up to 4 years in a state prison. Edward convinced a New York State Supreme Court Justice to sentence his client to probation without any jail time.

Edward Palermo represented a client accused of a gunpoint First Degree Robbery wherein the client faced up to 25 years in state prison.

Once again, Edward convinced a Suffolk County Jury to acquit his client.
